In-person therapy in Archway (N19)
Depression is often described as feeling low. But for many people, it’s something heavier and more persistent than that.
It can feel like a loss of energy, direction, or interest in things that used to matter. Or a sense of being cut off—from other people, and from yourself.
You might be getting through the day, but without much sense of being in it.
I offer in-person depression therapy in Archway (N19), North London, for adults who want to understand what’s happening beneath that experience—and whether something can begin to shift. (If you’re looking more broadly for a North London therapist, you can read more here.)
How depression can show up
Depression doesn’t look the same for everyone. It might involve:
- A persistent flatness or lack of feeling
- Loss of motivation or difficulty getting started with anything
- Harsh self-criticism or a sense of failure
- Withdrawal from other people
- A sense of pointlessness or disconnection
- Feeling stuck in a way that doesn’t respond to effort or willpower
Often, there’s an assumption—sometimes spoken, sometimes not—that you should be able to get yourself out of it. That assumption can make things worse.
Not just symptoms to manage
There are approaches to depression that focus on lifting mood or changing thoughts. That can be helpful. But it doesn’t always touch the underlying structure of the problem.
My way of working is to take depression seriously as something that has developed for a reason.
In therapy, we might begin to look at:
- patterns of self-criticism and how they formed
emotional states that have been pushed down or cut off
earlier experiences that continue to shape how you relate to yourself
ways of adapting that once made sense, but now leave you feeling stuck or diminished
This isn’t about endlessly analysing the past. It’s about understanding the logic of your experience, so that something different becomes possible. Read more about my approach.
The difficulty of starting
Depression often brings a kind of inertia. Even the idea of reaching out, or committing to something regular, can feel like too much. It’s common to delay, to think about it, to put it off.
At the same time, another part of you may recognise that nothing is changing. Therapy begins from exactly that position. Not from where you think you should be, but from where you actually are.

What to expect
We would begin with an initial consultation, where we can think together about what’s been happening and whether this feels like the right kind of space for you.
If we continue, sessions take place weekly at a regular time.
This is not a quick intervention. The work is more gradual than that—but often more substantial. Over time, the aim is not just to feel better in a temporary sense, but to relate to yourself differently.
