Therapy is also a laugh

Some of the funniest moments in my day are when clients say something hilarious, or when we laugh together about something. Maybe the absurdity of life. Or just some kind of moment of lightheartedness.

Isn’t that part of life? Therapy isn’t all about dwelling on the bad stuff. The good stuff takes care of itself, you could say. But we still need to acknowledge it and feel it.

I’m keeping this short because it’s a bit cringe, I think, when people talk about “the power of humor” or anything like that. Let’s just do it, let’s not instrumentalize it.

So, if you didn’t already know it, therapy is also a laugh. And I’d say in my experience, there is more laughter than there are tears in the average therapy session. Who knew.
